Dunkeswell has a large community of Formation Skydivers.

As soon as you gain your ‘A’ license after completing your RAPS or AFF course, our FS coaches offer a first class system to enable you to gain your FS1 qualification.

The course of around 10 jumps is based upon the British Parachute Association’s Formation Skydiving Progression Manual and Dunkeswell’s own carefully tailored Formation Skydiving Progression Programme.

Gaining the FS1 qualification will enable you to:
• Jump with other FS1 qualified skydivers
• Participate in organised FS jumps at Dunkeswell and elsewhere
• Become involved in 4-Way and larger competition skydiving
• Take the first steps towards getting on ‘Big-Ways’ around the World
• Have fun
• Work towards being an accomplished ‘all-round’ skydiver

FS coaching dives include a thorough briefing and preparation, a detailed video debrief and a copy of the video of your dives.

The cost:
Your Ticket (£21 or £18 NUS Discount)
Coaches Ticket (£21)
Coaching Fee (£10)

For jumpers who have already gained the FS1 qualification our organised FS loads include an emphasis on training and improving skills and we frequently invite guest FS load organisers such as Billy Payn and Dave Morris, to enable you to learn from their experience.

• In 2008 we held two FS big-way seminars, emphasising the importance of theory and terminology as well as the formation skydives.

• 2009 saw organising from Dave Morris and Dave Lewis as well as many people gaining the FS1 qualification.

• In 2010 The arrival of the UK's first Beech 99 should see more Formation skydiving taking place then ever at Dunkeswell. The large door is ideal for launching formations and it has the capacity for more regular larger formations.

To see what's happening at the Well this year have a look at the events planned for 2010.

Our community of formation skydivers tend to organise their jumps on the day so no matter when you turn up there will always be someone to jump with!!

Our community of Free Fly Skydivers has grown quickly since the arrival of a Beech King Air in 2007 and will no doubt continue with the arrival of a BEECH 99 in April this year.

We all know that Free Flying involves speed but that doesn't necessarily mean less time in Free Fall.

We go to 14,200ft AGL allowing you longer to go vertical!

In 2007, our Avalore coaching weekend was a huge success and a fantastic weekend was had by all involved.

In 2008 we also welcomed Mike Carpenter and Adam Mattacola for The Well Free Fly Festival and the Twin Beech Boogie in July played host to Chris Lynch and Tim Porter and the legendary Beech 99!

2009 Was a big year for freeflying at the well with coaching weekends from Volare, The Bad Lieutenants and expert coaching at the Twin beech boogie 09 from Chris Lynch, Tim Porter, Andy Lovemore and Jim Harris.

2010 is already set up to be another big year of freeflying with Team Kinetic training and hosting regular coaching weekends along with weekends already booked with Volare and The Bad Lieutenants. Have a look at all events planned for 2010.

Comprehensive coaching programmes are available all year round at Dunkeswell.

We are able to offer training in basic entry level freefly skills to more advanced flying skills that require the use of all axis and fall rates during a single skydive.

The approach we adopt with all coaching is not simply to show positions and request replication, we also work on techniques to maximise effectiveness. All too often a coach dive can deviate from plan due to the student being tense or feeling pressure to perform. This is human instinct however there are techniques to reduce this and improve our performance we will introduce you to this so you get the most out of your skydive and you coaching.

At Dunkeswell our coaches also offer a Freefly Intro 3 Jump course!

An ideal course for anyone wanting to explore the world of freeflying but aren't quite sure if they wish to invest in a full FF1 course. Included in the course is a Freefly manual covering everything in the course as well as a lot more for you to read up on.

We cover all the safety aspects such as fall rates, orientation, recovery technique, equipment safety, exit order, break off, exit position, in air communication, etc. As well as the in air skills to ensure you start with good habits!

We welcome Skysurfers at Dunkeswell and would like to offer many congratulations to Rob Bradley who recently won Gold at the British National Sky Surfing Championships in Leeds.

Well Done from all the team!

After a hard days jumping, we like to end the day with a sunset lift.

We operate from Dawn to Dusk and often organise a tracking dive for all abilities.

The Vertical Flyer Free Fly Programme can also arrange tailored tracking coaching introducing changing angles of flight during track, controlling approaches, docks, fall rate, forward speed and both back tracking and belly tracking. For more information contact the DZ and watch out for guest coaches.

This year's Boogie saw Tim Poter offering expert coaching in Tracking and Freeflying!

Keep and eye out on the events page for details of tracking this year with Tim.

Come along and join in!
